I imagine these crystals to be a slowly engulfing cocoon-like ascendancy process. As if it were a disease that progresses a lifeforce into a higher state of experience rather than one that breaks life down. I don’t imagine it hurts them but slowly gives them access to new physical/mental abilities, inherent power,  and capabilities. And what they become on the other side of full encapsulation I don’t know yet
